Afternic/Tucows “relaunch” by tomorrow

June 23, 2008

I had noticed today that there was only 7,680 expiring domain names listed on Afternic.com . I thought that was a bit odd since in Tucows press release and on the AfternicDLSBlog.com stated nearly 100,000 Tucows expiring domains would be added to the expiring stock.

Over the weekend Afternic/Tucows had noticed the issue and remove nearly all of Tucows expired domains. I asked Bill Sweetman of Tucows and Adam Gross of Afternic and Adam confirmed that.

Adam "Currently only a couple thousand of Tucows expiring domains are listed on Afternic and within 48 hours the remaining 90,000 + domains will be listed on Afternic?"

Adam repied "You are exact. by the weekend, we needed to pull back names from the 100,000 with which we launched the prior week.  We’re working with all customers who were affected, and preorder and bidding activity is saved.  We anticipate these names returning to the site as normal tomorrow. (June 24, 2008) "

I and I’m certain many others removed "Watched" domains, so it will be wise to redo your work for the domains that you were watching before. whether you were bidding on a domain already or had a domain pre-ordered you should be ok whether you didn’t remove it. I just wanted to give the heads up on that.

What makes a domain sellable, part 4

June 23, 2008

Revenue, makes a domain sellable but tread carefully or you can get burned. For the buyers I have that one strong piece of advice. Unless the name has other intrinsic qualities i.e., has legs or is some obvious category killer, you can lose your ass. Today I’ll look at ways it helps and focus on ways it hurts.

My week in drop catching reviewed

June 23, 2008

Last week I had posted it was instance to have some more fun with drop catching! Well, I have been doing it again and here are some of the domain names that I have been able to grab. Again, these are all 2nd tier drops, which I have paid registration fees for and no software was used to grab them.

The most crucial thing with drop catching 2nd tier drops is to have a Great Source and your process. The source is the domain names that will become 2nd tier drops. The process is the registrar you use to grab them and knowing the times of the drops so you know when to start and stop catching the domains.

So here are some domains that I grabbed and why I went after them……

VCNinc(.)comIGDinc(.)com Domains like these are good for companies that do not want to pay for their matching 3 letter acronym. They would rather pay less thereupon $3K next $30K for their LLL. I have sold one hand reg like that for $1,000 via afternic but that was additionally the only one that I had. Namebio.com reports 6 other sales of LLLinc domain names since 2007 with the average sale price of $1,333. My investment of $7.44 and a sale near that average sale price would explain my investment.

TimeToUnify(.)com, WhoDoesThis(.)com shout to action domain names are and will always be HOT! They assemble sense for companies to use for marketing considering of the already known terms! IMO, clear signal to action domains are good investements in the .com TLD.

BudgetWills(.)com It just clearly makes sense! Perfect for any lawyer world wide that offers wills. I seem to do well with the keyword Budget at the start! I sold Budgetimages(.)com recently for $1,880.

TotalSwitch(.)com, vDigger(.)com, TractorBlog(.)com, Sibz(.)net & ApparelPros(.)com . These domains were purchased for different reasons. Mainly considering I just liked them. Some just considering they produce sense and have a use like Tractor Blog. A good deal of different tractors on the market and blogging is hot. vDigger is good for just about any online tool or software progam. Apparel Pros is great for any apparel business.

So that was 10 domains, but I got a total of 18. The other 8 are niche markets which I wish not to reveal right now. So I think it’s very clear that there are some great domains to be purchased on the 2nd tier drop levels. I plus missed several domains that folks (manily companies) beat me out on, but I had about a 95% success rate for the domains that I went after. Again, I didn’t use Any Software to capture these, all hand registered the second they dropped.

Feel free to let me know what you think of the domains that I grabbed.

Being a Domainer gives you The Chance!

June 22, 2008

As I sit back and think about my job of being a full-time domainer, I do not only look at the money aspect I additionally look at my quality of life.

In my last job at Procter & Gamble I worked 12 hour rotating shifts. 3 days on, 2 days off days (6 am to 6:30 pm) soon after go back with 2 days on and 3 days off all switching from nights (6 pm to 6:30 am) to day shift. that is and was very hard on your body as you could never adjust to the changing of times. Sleeping in the middle of the day, staying up all night and the instance away from my wife and family was never fun. It paid the bills but beyond that it sucked!

So when I was given the chance at a "buy out" I snapped it up and hit the high road to domaining! My days of making Charmin toilet paper was by. Now I was making nearly $60K plus benefits, so it was not easy leaving. I knew I had to construct Every Penny from that point on and I wouldn’t be getting a pay check unless I earned it!

At first, those pay checks were slim. Heck, I was BROKE but I stayed driven to prove to not only myself but my wife and family that I made the unmistaken choice.

My main reason staying driven is The Chance! Working at P&G, no matter what I did my pay checks were always the same. Annually I would always prepare the same amount of money whether I busted my ass or not. Being a business owner, that is never the case. You as the business owner control a large part of what you manufacture! In the decisions and efforts applied will lead you on your path of the income you manufacture, not a instance clock.

Now I was never rich nor was I poor. I’m not rich now but I do work hard for every penny that I have! Domaining gives me The Chance to earn a large amount of money and the thought of owning that One Domain that somebody really wants or needs is like buying a lotto ticket on the night of the big drawing!

The fact is, you could spend $10 on domain today and sell it for $100K the next day! I do not aim at being a Millionaire right now considering I have to become a Hundred Thousandaire (not really a word, but you get my point) first to reach my top goal. $100,000 would Change My Life! whether I could have $100K in my bank detail and maintain that amount and keep making money, it would be life changing! Once I get that $100K in my bank explanation, I want to get another so I could have $100K in my checking history and the other $100K in my savings explanation!

I wouldn’t stop there just considering I have $200K, considering I need to do it 8 more times or 16 more times to reach my final goal!

I will do that! It could be today, tomorrow or next year but I will keep fighting and keep working for that day! Domaining gives me that chance!

BQB.com, Taking a deeper look

June 22, 2008

whether you were not aware of BQB.com it is a newer auction service for domain names that has No Commission, No Listing Fees and to top it off No Bullshit!

BQB currently has 1719 domains listed for sale. considering of the auction format, that underscores how many domains have actually been listed for sale by the past 1.5 months BQB has been online, which exceeds 17,000 domain names. All members are Personally all verified by a Human which is nice.

Currently there are 317 members (and growning, documents from 6-19-2008) and 247 sales since May 01, 2008 of total value exceeding $30,000 ($21,874 so far in June). that does not include the $10,000 sale of a 16 pack group of Triple-Quads that sold that week.

Reece Berg, the owner of BQB is additionally a Moderator at NamePros.com and well known in the "short domain" world. Reece plus runs 4LetterNoob.com which is a blog that spies by 4 letter domains. When Reece first started BQB, the auction was to focus on "short domains", but I have noticed now other domains listed as well. I think it would be wise for Reece to keep BQB as a Niche site and keep only short (1-7 character) domains listed.

This is one of the best auction sites that I think can become the next Sedo whether done correctly. I mean come on, No Listing Fees, No Commission! .All members are personally verified and the layout is clean and simple. The site is split in several sections including Featured Listings, Popular Auctions, Ending Soon and plus a Recently Sold section.

When you go through the listing process, there is no shortage of options to choose from. There are fees with many of these like $1 for setting a reserve or $5 for home page featured, Highlighted for $2 and Bold for $1.

Adding the domain could use some programming to capture some of the info added, like registrar, expire day, Google results, wordtracker and age, but not a biggy considering I know Reece will tweak the system with some duration.

Overall, it was very easy to sign up, very easy to list and the site has been performing with some nice sales. BQB has been advertising on domain forums and plus on Domaining.com with is plus nice. If you sign up, please put that you were referred by "yofie" (me), since BQB is holding a contest with the most referrals. Currently the leader is winning with 10. whether you think DotWeekly.com has helped you out and you feel BQB is a site you would use, I would thank you for adding "yofie" as who referred you. I know my readers can put DotWeekly "Yofie" to the TOP!
